What is the procedure for a beard transplant?

For a beard transplant procedure, healthy and thick hair that has thrived elsewhere on a patient’s head is extracted and transplanted to the beard area. This hair usually comes from the rear of the patient’s head for the sake of consistency.

The hair transplant surgeon removes the hair grafts from the donor area, and then implants them back into the skin of the beard area so they can create new growth. The surgeon must be particularly careful to implant the grafts at a natural angle, so it reflects the original hair growth pattern. Generally, only about 2,000-3,000 grafts are necessary for a full beard.

How does the beard transplant technique work?

At Evolved clinics in Perth, Australia, the DFI (Direct Follicle Insertion) Technique is practiced for beard transplantation.

It is a complete care system, taking the best from Direct Hair Implant and FUE techniques and consists of the following steps -

1- Extraction - "Survival of the Fittest" Direct Follicle Insertion is combining the extreme skill set of a surgeon trained in Manual extraction, and supercharging it with the latest in motorised technology. Simply put, our surgeons can extract grafts safer, faster and with the smallest of micro instruments, leaving donor areas virtually unmarked.

2- Graft Preservation - Platinum graft tissue preservation techniques (medical terminology for 100% graft survivability) are deployed through the use of chilled graft trays, ATP, Growth Factor Therapy and Hypothermasol. This creates an environment where the grafts feel like it's still in the body. Nothing is ever left to chance, as we understand there is only 1 donor area.

3- Implantation - Once the hair transplant surgeon get the hairs you need, each graft is carefully placed into an ultra-fine implanter and artistically inserted at the correct angle, depth and direction, ensuring 100% natural placement.

Beard transplants don’t require very much recovery time

Other than light redness or swelling a few days following the transplant, there are virtually no side effects. A procedure usually takes about 5 – 9 hours and is an outpatient procedure that will send you home right after. After the transplant fully heals, it will grow and act just like a normal beard.

You’ll be able to grow your beard faster, style and trim it as normal! After all, that’s the whole point.
